Cell Phone Use and EMF Threats: What You Should Know

What are EMFs?

- In 2016, a National Toxicology Program animal-based study linked cell phone radiation with increased incidence of brain and heart tumors.
- A Danish study found that cell phone use resulted in a statistically significant increase in central nervous system diseases, including migraine and vertigo, associated with cell phone use.
- Research published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine indicates “a consistent pattern of increased risk for acoustic neuroma and glioma” (two types of brain tumor.)
- Another study, published in the journal Pathophysiology, also found an increased risk of acoustic neuroma and glioma associated with cell phone use, and concluded that “one should be careful using incidence data to dismiss results in analytical epidemiology. The IARC carcinogenic classification does not seem to have had any significant impact on governments’ perceptions of their responsibilities to protect public health from this widespread source of radiation.”
Other potential side effects reported in the research include:
- DNA damage
- Disruption of melatonin production
- Over-production of calcium
- Slow cellular repair
- Rise in cortisol levels- also known as the “stress hormone”
- Toxins passing the blood-brain barrier
- Thyroid imbalances
- Fertility issues
The last study cited above brings up an important point: you can’t trust your government to protect you from the potential harmful effects of EMF radiation. With that in mind, what can you do to protect yourself?

Lifestyle changes and mindfulness can reduce cell phone radiation exposure significantly. The following EMF protection actions can aide in protecting you and your loved ones from unnecessary risk:
- Limit or completely restrict children’s access to cell phone use. One study found that children’s brain tissue absorbs EMFs at double the rate of adults. The same study found that children absorb EMFs in their bone marrow at a rate ten times higher than adults!
- Minimize time spent using a cell phone. Use a landline when possible.
- Try using speaker phone, or opt for a wired headset or earbuds.

- Do not charge your cell phone next to where you sleep.
- Avoid using your cell phone in a moving vehicle- the signal is weak and your phone has to work harder, emitting stronger EMFs.
- Refrain from carrying your phone on your body, and never store your phone in your bra or near your breasts.
- Try texting when appropriate and possible.
